The CROWN of CHRIST - Understanding the Times in the Light of Scripture
The
Wicky-Nicky
Farmer

inspired by an old song in the
Pennsylvania German
I wish I were a farmer -
The land would fill my soul -
With horses green and yellow cows
And pigs as black as coal
I wish I were a farmer
On Wicky-Nicky creek
I’d shoot the sweet potato bugs
On six days of the week

My barn will be full
Of Holstein geese
My sheep will weave pajamas
From their polka-dotted fleece
My hound will lay pink eggs
That hatch red cats
My ducks will eat beef
And I’ll feed bacon to the bats

I’m starting a new fashion
In winter I’ll make hay
Summer-times, I’ll sit out
Eating cherry pie all day
I’ll give my German wife
A tin-foil house
My plow will be pulled
By a team of ruffled grouse

With carpet on the ceiling
Pigs wallow at my door
I’ll wear paper overalls
Hang lanterns from my floor
I’ll bathe once a week
In a tub of sauerkraut
Can anyone please tell me
What this rhyme is all about?

I wish I were a farmer
With pretzels, wine and beer
I’d hunt all night for chipmunks
Riding on my purple deer
We all will live in peace
On Wicky-Nicky farm
An empty-head with belly full
Won’t come to any harm
